Fresh Prayer Models Wrapped in Ancient Paper

As one who works very closely with a number of church planters, leaders, and pastors involved in church multiplication, I often find myself in a place where I am praying for and with them.  Of course, it’s not difficult to pray for specific needs they mention, but it can be challenging when trying to pray for them as a group because I have a tendency to fall into the same patterns.  However, my prayer time has been given new life as I have started to follow some of the prayer models offered in Scripture.  The models represent outstanding guides and act as fresh launching pads, though they are hundreds and thousands of years old.  Consider the following passage from Ephesians 1:17-19(a):

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Also take a look at Ephesians 3:16-19:

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Finally there is Ephesians 6:19,20(b):

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, …. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

When I use these living thoughts to shape my prayer times, it has been incredible!  Maybe it will bless your prayer gatherings as well.
